HOW TO PREVENT SKIN IRRITATION WHEN TAPING
Here’s a knowledge bomb that will help you PREVENT skin irritation when taping.
💣 Allergic reactions to K Tape are INCREDIBLY RARE.
⚠️ The majority of‘reactions’ are actually skin irritations caused by an over-stretching of the tape or excessive friction on the skin due to a poor application.
All SPORTTAPE products are hypoallergenic and latex free. Follow these 3 tips, and we GUARANTEE a great taping experience, with no irritation.
1. EASY ON THE STRETCH
When you stretch the tape it recoils and lifts the skin. Over-stretching can mean excessive friction on the skin.
There’s never a reason to stretch the tape beyond 50-75% and ALWAYS make sure the ends of your tape(3-5cm) are stuck down with NO STRETCH.
2. TEST YOUR MOVEMENT
Once you’ve applied the tape, move around and see if the tape feels as though it’s‘pulling’ the skin. This can happen if the tape has been put down without the muscle being fully stretched.
If you feel it‘pinching’, then remove the tape and start again. This issue is usually characterised by a irritation of the skin just around the edges of the tape.
3. APPLY A TEST PATCH
ALWAYS apply a test patch if you’re using K Tape for the first time, especially if you have a history of taping allergies or highly sensitive skin. Some skin is too sensitive for anything to stick to be stuck to it.
Cut a small strip and apply it to your forearm. If it starts to itch soon after applying, then remove the tape and seek medical advice on a potential allergy. 20 minutes should be enough to know if you have an allergy.
If you have questions on how to apply tape then get in touch. We’re here to make sure you get PERFECT results from your tape, EVERY TIME.
We also offer our Kinesiology Tape in a 'Gentle' adhesion, which uses half the glue of our Extra Sticky and is kinder on the skin.
